Police held a man from Arkansas for breaching the Capitol on Wednesday protest. Federal prosecutors said that 60-year-old Richard Barnett turned himself in at the Benton County Sheriff’s Office on Friday.

After photos of him sitting in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office, Barnett became an instant online sensation after photos turned viral online. Federal authorities obtained a search warrant in his residence, hoping to find items belonging to the House Speaker.

“We are currently executing a court-authorized search warrant on Mr. Barnett’s residence,” stated FBI Special Agent Diane Upchurch, adding that the search could take longer since the team is searching very thoroughly and meticulously.

The authorities are also searching for a stolen laptop during the unrest. The laptop was purportedly belonging to one of the House Speaker’s staff and placed in a conference room used by Pelosi for presentations.

Barnett now faces multiple charges for his alleged crimes, including knowingly entering and remaining on restricted grounds, violent entry, and public property theft.

Prosecutors said that they applaud Barnett for his voluntary action, while they urge others involved to also follow in his steps.

“The one thing that Mr. Barnett has done right so far is to turn himself into law enforcement peacefully,” said Upchurch. “The FBI urges others who may be involved to do the same.”

A maximum penalty of up to one year in prison could be charged to Barret if proven guilty.
